Why is the demand for cloud services growing rapidly?

Before the pandemic, cloud computing model was already experiencing significant growth, but the coronavirus crisis has finally positioned cloud services, providers and integrators and companies’ IT organisations as high-value elements for achieving resilience and guaranteeing business continuity.

This is one of the conclusions of the recent report about cloud services in Spain, by the market research firm Penteo, whose experts predict that the adoption of this technology will accelerate over the next five years.

Key factors driving cloud growth

In addition to having enabled companies to evolve towards a more digitized model demanded by the crisis generated by Covid-19, this study highlights some of the reasons that are driving up demand for cloud services, including the need to optimise infrastructures, modernise and adapt their application ecosystems and have access to platforms and tools to manage and improve the operational and economic performance of an infrastructure that defines the automation framework needed to reliably deliver, expose and maintain IT as a set of services based on on-demand consumption.

Hybrid cloud or multi-cloud models are predominant worldwide, and also in Spain, where two out of three companies have opted for this option. According to the report, companies and their technology managers are “practically forced” to consume them to take advantage of the capabilities and virtues of each provision mechanism, but also because of the need to incorporate the best services from different providers for each of their projects and workloads.

However, it is the hyper-scale providers (Amazon Web Services -AWS-, Azure, Google Cloud Platform and also Alibaba, which is gaining ground) that dominate market share and spending in the global market.

The role of integrators, key to project success

There is no doubt that the range of offered services is extensive but, at a time when cloud computing has proven to be a pillar for digital transformation strategies, the report warns that cloud service integrators have become a key factor in the success of projects in “a mature market, but at the same time very dynamic and with scarce talent”, it stresses.

In the opinion of the Spanish firm’s experts, their service offering must provide a comprehensive vision of the cloud adoption process and be capable of carrying out strategy, analysis and roadmap projects to the cloud, infrastructure and application migrations and have implementation and maintenance capabilities.

In Cloud Universe 2020 Penteo’s report, Syntax is positioned among the top eight cloud service providers in the Spanish market, a result that arises from the analysis of four parameters, 33 indicators, data provided by the firms themselves and customers’ opinion about their offer. Our company’s specialisation in SAP on AWS stands out, an area in which we collaborate with the major providers, as we have developed our own tools, methodologies and differential assets to provide its projects with solidity, speed and functionality. In addition, the goal is to generate satisfaction in the companies that use these services, which Penteo defines as “extremely high”.

In general terms, the company stands out for its experience and capabilities in technology integration, consultancy and service management; business vision and sectorised use cases, and its intellectual property, which enables the optimisation of its services.
