Discover what AWS can do for your Microsoft workloads

microsoft and aws cloudWhen thinking about cloud deployments, Amazon Web Services is one of the main options for companies worldwide. With a huge variety of services, businesses today adapt their systems in order to achieve higher stability and performance while reducing costs related to infrastructure and management. One of them is Microsoft workloads and all data related to servers and applications.

In fact, during 11 years, AWS has been the trusted cloud provider for businesses that need to manage their Microsoft workloads in secure and reliable virtual environments in terms of availability. This is why in the following blogpost we wanted to share and explain the many benefits of building, deploying and managing Windows workloads on AWS cloud

Leveraged performance

There are several solutions to make the most of Windows Servers on AWS, from Amazon EC2 instances to monitoring tools such as CloudWatch. Migrating data and applications is easy and seamless with the available AWS services that are currently available. Those tools can definitely help companies manage the running of applications for different versions of Windows Servers and SQL databases.

As known, the main benefits are: security, scalability and flexibility supported by important cost savings of the Windows workloads in your own cloud-based infrastructure and with different types of licensing on deployments and provisioning.

On top of that, AWS also offers companies with solutions like AWS Elastic Load Balancer, EC2 Instances for storage, the Elastic Block Store or the Amazon RDS to run and manage databases and SQL instances.

What makes AWS the best option?

We should consider as the main advantage that, Amazon Web Services prime objective is based on RELIABLITY. As stated by Sandy Carter, AWS Vicepresident, in order to ensure global coverage and performance, their virtual instances need to be powered by availability and the possibility of scalability based on business needs.

This is the main benefit that define AWS for Windows servers. In terms of availability, it is possible to select multiple availability zones and host data across different and connected AWS regions (you can also assign a Disaster Recovery region), resulting on higher latency and fault tolerance. AWS can also help you predict the moment when you need to scale up or down your infrastructure capacity without the risks of interruptions.

As for Microsoft workloads, by migrating to AWS cloud, it is possible to take advantage of a greater range and depth of functionality, in total 48 unique services impossible to find with any other cloud provider. Plus, AWS helps you build and run Microsoft applications like Visual Studio, Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, System Center, the Windows service desk and .NET.

Includes a native Windows file system available in the cloud with FSx for Windows File Server. The first 750 hours of use of EC2 t2.micro instances are free and it offers preconfigured AMIs to run instances more easily. Amazon Web Service APIs provide the AWS SDK for .NET that helps you request external assistance to enhance your applications in the .NET environment.

A major achievement: Linke as Service Delivery Partner

To guarantee the best results, AWS has evaluated several partners in order to validate their expertise and developed tools and solutions migrating Microsoft servers and applications into the AWS environment. Within this context, Linke has obtained the Service Delivery Partner competency for the deployment of Microsoft Windows Servers in Amazon EC2 instances.

At Linke, we follow best practices to achieve the success of all data management processes, we offer monitoring services, design and architecture in the cloud, effective cost analysis and a secure alternative to operate without problems. To guarantee the efficiency of Windows systems our solutions are based on:

  • Security: It is Linke's priority to protect data through the implementation of end-to-end encryption.
  • Reliability: We work under the previous mentioned principle of AWS to minimize errors and facilitate data recovery in case of failures, reducing interruptions in service.
  • Scalability: We implement AWS (for example, CloudWatch) tools that helps predict the necessary capacity by scaling vertically or horizontally.
  • Profitability and cost savings.
  • Optimize: client's Microsoft Windows infrastructure.
  • Flexibility: The service adapts to the business' needs.

Based on results, we can assure that AWS is one of the best options for moving and running Windows in the cloud. Many companies around the world already rely on the power of the AWS cloud for the architecture, migration, deployment and management of these systems and their applications

We help customers migrate and run their Windows applications and workloads on Amazon Web Services. If you want to know more, check our latest case study with Serunion, a leader in the food community sector in Spain.

Together with AWS they have managed to increase the performance, stability of the migrated systems and decrease costs, including with the migration of their Microsoft SQL database environments. Read all about this success story here:
