Cloud computing is already a standard in company initiatives but, as a model of computing, it continues to advance, and these changes have to be taken into consideration when planning the technological projects carried out in this field.

Cloud Trends for 2019

Serverless architectures, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, the hybrid cloud model and migration of core systems should be the focus of the CIOs during 2019 because of the benefits they can bring to companies.

 

Serverless Computing

Serverless architectures will be consolidated as the de facto standard for developing native cloud applications. They have been gaining followers since the main public cloud providers have been enlarging their offer in this subject: Amazon Web Services introduced AWS Lambda in 2015, followed by Azure Functions from Microsoft and Cloud Functions from Google.

Serverless Computing has a future and will continue to advance because it allows technology teams to forget about server provisioning, management and maintenance, which is left in the hands of the service providers.

 

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

For the last couple of years, the major cloud providers have opted for Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) services. The technology is now ready, and in 2019 more projects will be undertaken to automate processes and be more intelligent.

The growing number of specialized cloud services such as Amazon Forecast or Amazon Personalize, and the availability of a wide variety of hardware optimized for these workloads, provide the basis for companies and users to tackle projects based on AI and ML quickly and cost-efficiently with the knowledge of the great market leaders.

 

Hybrid Cloud

Last November's announcement by Amazon Web Services of the new AWS Outposts service is a clear example of the commitment that all the major providers in this field are making to the hybrid model, very oriented towards companies and businesses that have workloads that cannot be migrated to the cloud, but want to take advantage of it even in their facilities.

In this area and throughout this year, companies will pay special attention on how to manage these environments as well as multicloud, in order to get real value from their bets on the cloud.

 

Management Environments

The evolution of technology in all aspects, including security, has encouraged core applications, more critical to any organization, to begin their journey to the cloud.

In 2018 we have seen major migrations of management systems to the cloud and, in all probability, in the coming months more companies will move their transactional systems and their management to cloud platforms with the aim of optimizing their digital transformation processes and, in this way, being able to take advantage of other trends, such as AI, in the field of ERP.

 

In short, cloud computing has become a key requirement for the evolution to digital models of many companies. And not only to support secondary applications, but also core systems, in which platforms such as AWS has served as a basis for successful projects. Ready to face 2019?
